Football has started and the Season's change!

September 16, 2026

There is something quietly magical about the first weekend of the NFL season. Yes, your fantasy football lineup matters — maybe more than you'd like to admit — but beyond the rosters and the red zone highlights, that opening weekend carries a deeper signal. It means summer's grip is beginning to loosen. The days are ticking shorter, the morning air holds just a little more of a bite, and somewhere in the back of your mind, a familiar excitement starts to stir. Ski season is out there on the horizon, getting closer by the week.

The Calendar Doesn't Lie

It was still 90 degrees this weekend. We know. You were probably watching games in the air conditioning, keeping one eye on your fantasy matchup and another on the thermometer. But look at the clock — sunset is creeping earlier every evening now. We are past the equinox tipping point, and the light is changing in that unmistakable way that only September can deliver. Fall is not a rumor. It is already happening around the edges, even if the heat hasn't gotten the memo yet.

A Season of Looking Forward

Four skiers descend a groomed run together at a mountain resort, with snow-covered pines, a village base area, and dramatic peaks filling the background under bright winter skies.

Part of what makes this time of year so energizing is the anticipation. Football fans spend the offseason thinking about their team's draft moves, their fantasy picks, their Super Bowl dark horse candidates. Skiers and snowboarders do the same thing — imagining the first real cold snap, checking the long-range forecasts, dusting off equipment, and daydreaming about the kind of bluebird powder day that makes everything worth it. There is real joy in the looking-forward. We are in that window right now, and we think it deserves a moment of appreciation.

What the Changing Season Means for Us

Here at Home Mountain Ski Club, the turn of the seasons is always felt. Our members start checking in a little more, swapping summer stories for winter plans. Conversations shift from hiking trails and lake days to mountain conditions, season pass decisions, and which resorts are looking promising this year. We love being part of that conversation. If you have been thinking about where you want to be when the first serious storm rolls in, we are thinking about it too — and we are here when you want to talk through it.

The Long Winter Storms We Are Dreaming About

There is nothing quite like waking up to a winter storm warning and knowing you have a powder day on the other side of it. The kind of snow that stacks up overnight and transforms familiar terrain into something entirely new. The quiet on the mountain before the lifts open. The way fresh snow feels underfoot in those first few runs. We are not there yet, but we are closer than we were a month ago. And that is worth celebrating, even while the ceiling fan is still running.

Stay Sharp Before the Season Opens

One of the best things about this in-between stretch of the calendar is that it gives you time to prepare. Whether you are a seasoned skier looking to sharpen your edge work or someone who wants to feel more confident before heading up the mountain, using the weeks ahead to stay active and work on your balance and technique pays real dividends when conditions open up. Our indoor training environment is built around that idea — keeping you connected to the sport and ready to make the most of every day the mountain gives you.

Let's Start the Conversation

We are not here to rush anyone. Summer is still hanging on, the football season is fresh and full of promise, and there is plenty of time to enjoy the transition. But if you are starting to feel that familiar pull — the one that shows up right around this time every year — we would love to hear from you. Tell us where you are planning to ski this winter. Tell us what you are most looking forward to. The community that gathers around this sport is one of its greatest gifts, and the conversation is always worth having a little early.
